Microsoft Dynamics D365 Business Central on the Azure Cloud is part of the Microsoft eco-system and the Modern Data Platform.
Data is valued as a strategic asset. Siloed, monolithic data stores make it difficult to use data to provide strategic, discoverable, trustworthy and trackable information. This largely led to the digital transformation strategy that Microsoft deployed and saw the creation of the Modern Data Platform.

The Modern Data Platform is briefly explained below. Data is collated from a variety of sources and stored in one environment – Azure. Using Power Platform tools such as Power BI, Power Automate and Power Apps your data can be reported and directed by you, the citizen developer to achieve results that are unique to your organisation. Programs written by Microsoft are either found under Office 365 or Dynamics 365. Examples of Office 365 include Outlook, Word and Excel. Examples of Dynamics 365 include Dynamics 365 Sales, Dynamics 365 Humans Resources and Dynamics 365 Business Central.
As Microsoft written products do not cover every eventuality authorised third parties (ISV’s) develop Apps (programs) to cover these situations. These are found in AppSource. An example of one of these is the PayFocus payroll written by Dialog for the Australian market. Data from systems outside of the Microsoft Modern Data Platform can be interfaced through different methods. It can be as simple as an Excel import or a real-time API development.
This Modern Data Platform is a continually evolving strategy to ensure that data is accessible and meaningful and that as your business needs evolve the Microsoft solution will evolve and grow with them.
